When the sun met the moon
------------------------------------
The growing popularity of Kannada Greeting Cards on DiscoverBangalore
and the ever increasing demands from Kannadigas
to introduce more cards for all occasions motivated us
to present an Exclusive website for Kannada Greetings
Cards. And thus Shubhashaya was born.
Ravishankar and Shashi Krishna are two Kannadigas living
and working in two completely different parts of the world.
What makes them dissimilar? Many things. Professions,
geography, lifestyles and many more such factors. But
the focus of this article is to tell you what makes them
alike. Their undying love for their roots and language
- Karnataka and Kannada. Their journeys towards the west
might have started in different places but their common
point of interest has always been Kannada. How else can
one explain the amazing collaborative project that they
have initiated on the Internet without even having a)
spoken to each other (via any medium) or b) seen each
other in real life? All they have as a common medium of
communication is an email interaction. Hundreds of email
messages have been exchanged over a span of a year and
the result is a Kannadiga oriented Internet project called
'Shubhashaya'.
What is this 'Shubhashaya' and why should anyone
know about it ? Firstly it is safe to say that Kannada's
presence on the Internet is a rapidly increasing number.
Over the last few years the number of Kannada based websites
that have come up is absolutely outstanding. Everything
from message forums to movies to entertainment to literature.
You name it and chances are you will find it. This said,
what Ravi and Shashi have done using their resources together
is create one more such amazing haven for Kannadigas not
just outside India but also within the nation.
'Shubhashaya'
is a unique Kannada electronic greeting card site. The
first of its kind that has dozens of event-based and relationship
based animated and static greeting cards that can be sent
to anyone around the world. Just imagine being somewhere
in Japan and sending that wonderful thought in pure Kannada
to your mother on her birthday! Or being able to congratulate
a friend on his/her success in a language that strikes
such a personal note? How many of us Kannadigas have felt
the need for such a service? How many of us have wondered,
'Oh! I wish there was something in Kannada out there which
I could use instead of Hallmark cards
'? Well look
no further since project 'Shubhashaya' is just
what you might need.
The best part about this website is that it is absolutely
free! What more can one want from a website that caters
to such a rich and unique crowd? And there is more! They
don't just have E-cards that you can choose from but you
can also send a card that you designed yourself. All you
have to do is upload it to 'Shubhashaya' and off it goes
to your loved ones within seconds. Saying you care in
Kannada was never easier.
What Ravi and Shashi have accomplished with this project
goes beyond just designing and distributing an electronic
card service. They have proven that if the will is strong
and the passion is high enough, any kind of challenge
can be undertaken regardless of geography and other limitations.
They have made a statement so loud and clear that their
brainchild "Shubhashaya" sets a milestone
in Kannada's presence on the World Wide Web.
If you are a Kannadiga who cares about his/her roots and
who wants to support this wonderful initiative, then please
go to http://www.shubhashaya.com to check out what they
have in store as of now. You can also write tothem letting
them know your thoughts and feedback. One hopes that this
unique intersection of the sun and the moon continues
to bring more light into the lives of millions of online
kannadigas worldwide.
