Dasara or Naada
Habba is another important festival for the Kannadigas.
Also called as Navarathri since the festival runs
for 9 days. Celebrations are unique ranging from worshipping
goddess Chamundeshwari (Durga) to exhibiting colorful
toys on the day of 'bombe habba' in Kannada or 'Bommala
Koluvu' in Telugu. Saraswathi (goddess of Education)
Pooja, Ayudha Pooja worshipping the implements used
and finally Vijayadashami worshipping goddess Durga
are important festivals days of Dasara.
The Naada Habba
was celebrated for over 600 years by the erstwhile
Royal Family of Mysore, however when the Karnataka
state was formed in 1956, the State took over the
responsibility of celebrating Dasara and aptly called
it the Naada Habba or State Festival.
